3 Signs You’re Paying Too Much for Car Insurance

For many drivers, car insurance is considered nothing more than a necessary evil. Even though many drivers do not particularly like paying for their car insurance, they often do not even look for car insurance quotes because they assume that they won’t find a much better deal than what they are already paying. However, there are so many Canadian drivers out there who are paying more for their insurance than they have to. These are a few signs that you are one of them.

1. You Haven’t Shopped for Quotes Recently

Your average car insurance policy lasts for six months, and it’s smart to shop around for auto insurance quotes each and every time that it is time to renew your policy. Even if you shopped around previously, there might be new options available to you now, or some of the insurance companies that are out there might be offering lower rates than what they offered previously. Either way, with all of the handy online tools that are out there, comparing quotes is easier than ever before, so there is no excuse not to at least look for ways to save money.

2. You Plead Guilty to a Traffic Citation

Don’t just assume that you should plead guilty to a traffic citation, even if you are actually guilty of whatever you have been charged for. Doing so can cause your insurance to go up exponentially for several years, even for rather minor offenses.

The better choice is to work with an attorney next time that you get a citation to see if you have other options. Your attorney might be able to work out a deal, such as by encouraging you to plead guilty to a lesser charge. Driving school might be another option for you to consider as well. In the future, avoid just pleading guilty without looking for other routes; along with blemishing your driving record, it can cost you a lot of money in increased insurance premiums, too.

3. You Haven’t Notified Your Insurance Company of Changes

If you have gone through recent life changes, there is a chance that you might qualify for a car insurance discount because of it. For example, if you have retired and now spend most of your time at home, you might be spending a lot less time on the road. Because of this, your insurance company might deem you as less of a risk and might reduce your rates. Other life changes can have similar effects on your premiums, so talk to your insurance agent to find out more.

If you are paying too much for your car insurance, now is the time to do something about it. Then, you can make a big difference in your budget and can save a ton of money each year. If you want to learn more, you may be interested in checking out the resources at Insurance Hero.
